Snowshoe Grocery Guide

In our Snowshoe Facebook Group, members often ask where is the best place to buy groceries on the way to Snowshoe? More often than not, they omit which direction they are coming from.

Condo Rentals

Here’s my quick guide based on years of driving in from the north and traveling south of Snowshoe to do some sight seeing.

FROM THE NORTH

If you are coming in from the north and driving south on rte 219, there are several options to choose from.  The first place once you get into Elkins, WV is the Kroger grocery store next to the McDonalds on 219 South.  If you are not familiar with Krogers, it is a full service large grocery.

A few miles south there is a Walmart supercenter on your left.  It’s a pretty large store and will be your last place that offers a large selection.

Just south of Elkins is a Dollar General in Historic Beverly, WV. It’s a smaller store but does offer some basic supplies and frozen foods.

Continue south on 219 and you will come to a split in the road in Huttonsville.  There is a Par Mar gas station at the intersection.  I mention this since it is your last chance to buy liquor unless you wish to spend top dollar at the Vine and Hops Shop in Snowshoe Village.

Further south is a newer Dollar General on 219 just past the rte 55 turn off.  DG has a smaller selection but may suffice if you missed the ones in Elkins.

FROM THE SOUTH

They are several options to choose from when coming from the south near Lewisburg, WV. Similar to the north, this area also has a Kroger and a Walmart Supercenter. Both are full service groceries with a deli and fresh produce options. Once past Lewisburg, there are several small stops along the way with limited offerings. The last true grocery store is the IGA in Marlinton, WV.

SNOWSHOE AREA

Once you arrive in the Snowshoe area, it’s really slim pickings.  There is another Par Mar at the bottom of the mountain that has a limited selection of groceries and sundries.  Just up the road is a newer Dollar General. They have plenty of frozen options but no fresh meat or produce The last option is Wildcat Provision on the top of Snowshoe.  It also has a very limited selection. One should expect to pay resort prices for goods.
