One of Snowshoe WV’s hidden gems is a spot in the woods that strongly resembles the famous Narnia lamp post scene. It is a great place to take some fantastic winter family photos.
Not many people are familiar with it. Our Snowshoe Facebook group is filled with questions regarding where it is located.
We pulled this info from group member Hannah P., so we’d like to give her credit until we have time to do a detailed instruction guide with photos of the exact location.
From what we garner, it’s near the Snowcrest condo complex beyond the large water towers.
From Hannah:
Just passed it snowshoeing last weekend!! This is from memory and I *think* the easiest way to find it. Park at top of the world, walk up to Snowcrest condos. Towards the end of the parking on your left you should see a path in the snow through the trees- follow this around the water tank. Once you are passed the big water tanks the path will somewhat split, follow it to the right into the woods and just keep following the path until you stumble upon it! I think you can also get there from the split by following the path (I think it’s called unemployment highway on the backcountry map) to the left but it feels more magical walking through the trees to get to it- especially where there has been snow!
Look at the resemblance when the ground and trees are covered with snow.
We think a photo taken at the proper angle like the one here up into the trees would be an amazing family photo shoot for a Christmas card.
Stay tuned for more updates.
